Michael Jones
CPO for the State of Alabama
Michael A. Jones was born and raised in Selma, Alabama, and is a graduate of Southside High School. He attended Troy State University and graduated with degrees in computer science and business administration. While at Troy, Jones joined Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and served as a Trojan Ambassador.
Jones has worked in Alabama state government for nearly 30 years and is currently the chief procurement officer (CPO) for the State of Alabama. He has served as president of the Alabama Public Health Association and the National Association of State Procurement Officials. He was inducted into the Alabama Public Health Association’s Class of 2011 Hall of Fame. He serves on the board as vice president of the STEP Foundation.”
Jones and his wife, Lisa, are members of Taylor Road Baptist Church. He sings in the adult choir and serves as an ordained deacon. “I enjoy music, traveling, board games and am addicted to “Candy Crush,” he said.
In 2016 his sister was diagnosed with breast cancer. “Because she is very consistent in getting mammograms, it was detected early and she was fortunate to receive attention quickly to overcome the disease,” Jones said. His father also was diagnosed with prostate cancer before he died.
“Anytime I can help bring awareness to an awful disease in hope of bringing a cure or help with the prevention of cancer, I am on board 100%,” he said.
